Isaak Gottfryd Goedtke, History of the town of Chojnice

The history of Chojnice, first published in 1724, written down by Isaac Gottfryd Goedtke, town notary and mayor of the town between 1742 and 1760, is an indispensable historical source for learning about the rich history of Chojnice, seen from the perspective of an 18th-century documentalist, lawyer, archivist and owner of a valuable library collection. The Museum's publication in Chojnice is commemorative; it consists of a facsimile of the original Gdansk edition with a sketch of the then plan and the panorama of the 'Royal Town of Chojnice', specially prepared for the original edition, and is additionally accompanied by a Polish translation, preserving the editorial layout of the original. The author of the translation from German is Leon Stoltmann, historical and linguistic consultations: Bogusław Dybaś and Andrzej Radzimiński, UMK. The publication received a national award in the category of Most Interesting Museum Event of 1991.
