The register book kept in the manuscript collection of the Chojnice museum library is a documentation of the records of successive parish priests and chancellery of the parish of St. John's the Holy Trinity in Chojnice concerning the economic state of the parish. Founded on 1 December 1738 and maintained until 1804, it is an invaluable source of knowledge about the history of the parish church in Chojnice at a time of difficult relations between local Catholics and Protestants and the painful consequences of the Swedish wars for the parish. The book contains a wealth of material on the history of the town and its inhabitants, including the texts of the visitations of 1619 and 1653, several legal documents and accounting reports on the repair and construction work on parish buildings. It has been read and translated in its entirety from Latin, German and the original Old Polish spelling by Adam Szweda /UMK/. Its advantage is that the material is arranged in a way that makes it easy to compare the original text with its translation. The register book may serve both as an archival source for researchers and an important popularising role for a wide range of enthusiasts of Chojnice's history. The author of the study is Anna Czapczyk.
