Since Saturday, the J. Rydzkowski Historical and Ethnographic Museum in Chojnice has opened to the public the exhibition "A Soldier and a horse. European cavalry in Marek Holak's collection". The exhibition features over one hundred objects and photographs related to the history of cavalry formations, mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries. One of the most interesting exhibits is a tack (saddle and bridle) of a Tsarist army officer from the early 20th century. In addition, the exhibition features English, German, Austrian and French saddles, as well as a Polish saddle model 25 with a reconstructed pad of the 16th Regiment of Wielkopolska Lancers. The activity of Polish cavalrymen in the field of sport is documented by numerous souvenirs of equestrian competitions. One of the most valuable is a badge commemorating the visit of the President of the Republic of Poland, Stanisław Wojciechowski, to a competition organised in 1924 in the 16th Uhlan Regiment of Wielkopolska. Also unique is the provisional cavalry regulations, issued in Paris in 1918. The exhibition also features exhibits related to the care and breeding of horses, including offers from companies producing horseshoes, anti-slip horseshoes, horse passports and memorabilia related to the functioning of the Society for the Encouragement of Horse Breeding in Poland. The exhibition will be available until June 2024.
