225 July 2023. The Museum in Chojnice, together with the Zaborski Landscape Park in Charzyki, had the pleasure of presenting a new book entitled Connected by the heritage of Łukomia, which is a material trace of the popular-scientific seminar organised on 23 September 2022 as part of the jubilee celebrations of 100 years of the Chojnice Sailing Club in Charzykowy 1922 - 2022.
Lake Łukomie is the historical name of one of the most important lakes in Pomerania. The main idea behind the seminar was to highlight the significance of the heritage of Charzykowskie Lake by looking at it from the multiple perspectives of the interests of the individual participants, through the prism of many passions, professional specialisations and scientific disciplines, with a view to its protection and preservation for future generations. The initiators and organisers of the symposium were: the Zaborski Landscape Park in Charzyki and the J. Rydzkowski Historical and Ethnographic Museum in Chojnice, as well as the Chojnice Sailing Club in Charzyki and the Communal Cultural Centre in Chojnice. The seminar was organised with the support of the Pomorskie Voivodeship. Honorary patronage was assumed by the Chojnice Starost and the Head of the Chojnice Commune. Seven papers were delivered as part of the seminar, the content of which covered historical, sporting and sailing issues, as well as geographical and natural history and art.
The post-conference publication contains nine articles, including two additional papers by authors who could not attend the symposium. Topics of historical interest include: the importance of the Charzyki Lakes in the history of the Chojnice-Człuchów area /dr M. Fryda, Regional Museum in Człuchów/, the history of the first Sailing Club in Poland in Chojnice /kmdr K. Pestka, ChKŻ in Charzyki/ and the development of a water sports training centre on the lake together with a holiday resort around the lake gradually gaining tourist and recreational value /K. Syngierski, Communal Cultural Centre in Chojnice/. The historical heritage also includes two outstanding personalities inseparably connected with the lake, discussed in separate articles - these are: Władysław Jagiełło (1912-1944) - Lviv resident, ethnologist, researcher of the Tuchola Forest fisheries and soldier /dr A. Trapszyc, M. Znamierowska-Prüfferowa Ethnographic Museum in Toruń/ and Egon Raszke (1907- 1983) - forester, passionate about hunting, hunting cynology, ornithology and nature protection /M. Synak, H- E Museum in Chojnice/. A historical and geographical perspective is presented in an article with a toponymic map of the lake, compiled on the basis of tradition passed on by local fishermen sailors and foresters /M. Grzempa, ZPK in Charzyki/. Also interesting are two articles from the natural sciences discussing in an analytical way the conditions of the water environment and vegetation of Lake Charzykowskie /dr. R. Chmara, University of Gdańsk/ and its avifauna /G. Jaszewska, ZPK in Charzykowach/. A look at the lake from an artistic perspective, taking into account the heritage of nature as a source of visual-aesthetic impressions, is contained in an article devoted to a collection of landscape paintings from the 2nd half of the 20th century from the collections of the Historical and Ethnographic Museum in Chojnice /B. Zagórska, H-E Museum in Chojnice/. The editing of the publication is the work of Justyna Rymon Lipińska, who also designed the cover /ZPK in Charzykowach/ and Anna Urbańska /Museum H-E in Chojnice/. The typesetting was done by Marek Woliński /Museum Chojnice/.
An unquestionable asset of the book, which shows the uniqueness of the lake, is the fact that it shows for the first time in such a broad spectrum the richness of traditions which its existence in the region has brought together for a long time, and how much it has determined the lives of the inhabitants, their work, passions and customs. An important value of the book, apart from the many illustrations included, is the knowledge it reveals to the reader - hitherto known rather among specialists, and which could be a contribution to a broader, monographic account of the rich heritage of Charzykowskie Lake. The book can be purchased at the headquarters of the Zaborski Landscape Park in Charzyki and at Brama Człuchowska.
