Ethnographic collection

collects relics of the material and spiritual culture of the southern part of Western Pomerania - mainly Kashubia. Among them are objects and tools used for soil processing and plant cultivation, animal husbandry, fishing, gathering, weaving, instruments for food preparation and storage, and household utensils. Richly represented in the collection of handicrafts and folk art - ancient and contemporary - systematically increased thanks to constant cooperation with folk artists and competitions organized for more than 30 years - of contemporary Kashubian folk art and a national one for a Christmas crib. Within the framework of folk art, the following collections are gathered: embroidery of all Kashubian schools and chattels - goldsmiths, glass painting, wood carving, horn products, traditional braiding, ritual objects, toys and Christmas cribs. Among the sculptures are objects dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Among the most valuable are a sculpture of St. Roch from 1628 and a statue of Our Lady of Łąkowska from the 19th century. Since the beginning of the museum's existence, an embroidery collection has been gathered, which is related to the rich embroidery traditions represented in the former Chojnice district. It includes embroidery specimens from Żarnowiec, Żukowo and Teodora Gulgowska's studio in Wdzydze from the early 20th century, as well as embroidery centres in Brusy, Wielu, Kosobudy, Lipnica and Chojnice. The ethnographic section documents in detail the development of the work of two outstanding contemporary folk artists of the region: Jozef Chelmowskiz Brus and Wlodzimierz Ostoi-Lniski of Czersk.
